The American Jackraptor is designed as a survival first dual purpose breed. It is our philosophy that a bird that gets eaten by predators isn't useful for meat or for eggs. As part of that we focus a lot on the structure of the birds. We want them fast, athletic, and big. Small predators can often be thwarted through size and tenacity, while bigger ones require a fast bird that can make a run for it or fly up into a tree if they are close enough. As far as meat production goes we see very similar results to heritage breeds such as the Barred Rock and Rhode Island Red when processed in the 16 weeks range. The hens can produce up to 150 eggs a year for first year birds, and we are actively breeding to increase that each season through the selection process. Eggs are currently white to cream, and at maturity they are large, with some hens laying extra large.

Minimum order size is 8 chicks.

For Every 10 chicks ordered we include 1 free chick. Orders of 16+ chicks also include Free Express Shipping. Each order will include 1 extra chick in excess of any Free Chicks to help ensure every customer gets what they paid for.

We include a 72-Hour Live Arrival Guarantee for shipped chicks. For any chick losses at arrival or during those first 72 hours we require a picture of the deceased chick(s) for reimbursement. Reimbursement will be given for any lost chicks beyond the free or extra chick(s) sent as part of the order. In the event of a catastrophic loss we will reship the order free of charge.

Chick orders ship with supplemental heat, hydration gel, and food to help them arrive safely.

It is mandatory that all chick orders are held for pickup at the Post Office. The Post Office is directed to call the customer at receiving the shipment, and tracking will also be available for customer awareness of their order's arrival. We are not responsible for chick losses that are due to customer negligence by not picking up their chicks the same day they arrive. Shipping is a race against the clock as the heat pack, hydration gel, and food can only carry them so far. The heat packs we use for shipping chicks are rated at 96 hours to give them the best odds of a safe arrival.

Minimum order size is 8 chicks.

Chick shipping begins in March. All chick orders are shipped USPS EXPRESS. Chick shipping includes:

  • Heat Pack
  • Food
  • Hydrocolloid-gel that includes electrolytes, amino acids, and vitamins
  • A 72 hour live arrival guarantee.

We generally won't ship on weeks that include a federal holiday as this can cause delays in shipments. Chick shipments of 8-15 chicks have a $80 flat rate shipping charge, while orders of 16+ chicks include free USPS EXPRESS shipping.

I have only good things to say about my entire experience with American Jackraptors. I seen them being posted in a chicken group last year and thought to myself how I hope to own some one day.

Well the moment they announced eggs and chicks for sale i jumped into that opportunity. I got a a dozen eggs to start and he included some extra. They all were packed SO well and in perfect condition. No issues with detached aircells from shipping or anything. I had 10 eggs make it to lockdown - and 9 hatched. I am VERY happy with those numbers.

My chicks are 2 months old. They were out free ranging with all my girls - which i may mention they are adorable, leggy and brave. They take no crap from the adults and have merged into the flock flawlessly.

Today a large Husky came into the yard and attacked my flock. It got a few of my adults but not a single jackraptor chick was injured. Even as little ones they are very fast. They took off to the woods on my property to get cover. Survivors.
